Quando meno è posto come aggettivo comparativo davanti a un sostantivo plurale, si traduce in inglese con fewer o, meno frequentemente, con not as many o not so many. Abbiamo preso meno voti di quattro anni fa, we got fewer votes than four years ago, we didn't get as many votes as four years ago. Tuttavia, molti parlanti madrelingua usano in questi casi less, nonostante alcuni grammatici continuino a considerare tale forma scorretta: We got less votes than four years ago.
Analogamente, quando meno è aggettivo con valore di superlativo relativo, la forma più corretta è the fewest, ma molti preferiscono invece la forma the least: Qual è il candidato che ha ricevuto meno voti?, which candidate received the fewest votes?; which candidate received the least votes?
